The cookie cutters and sanding sugars for this years sugar cookies.
Sugar Cookies
1 ½ sticks butter softened
¾ cup sugar
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 lemon (zested)
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
A flick, or two, of water
Glitter or sprinkles of choice
Beat butter in mixer on high speed for about 2 minutes until very smooth. Add sugar and beat again for about 2 minutes.
Add egg, vanilla, and zest of one lemon.
Combine flour and salt. Add slowly to butter mixture a little at a time.
Get your hand wet under the faucet and flick whatever is clinging to it into the dough.
Mix by hand as you form the dough into a ball.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 1- 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Flour your counter top. Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness. (I use dowel rods from home depot in that diameter as rolling guides.)
Cut out shapes with cutters and arrange cookies on un-greased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with glitter.
Bake 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies depending on size of cutter.
